Cleaning Fuel

Wedding Anniversary

Today is my parents wedding anniversary 58 years married! Ohh heck that is quite some time. Congratulations for sticking it out that long.

March is a busy month in the family, a wedding anniversary, 3 birthdays all within a week. On top of that Crufts, this year sister did the discover Dogs with the Pyreneans. I had an exam, results of which won’t know till mid-April. So long wait ahead.

Back to the Boat

Boat wise, back step is in. Still needs finishing touches i.e. the gunwale covering wrap, and skirting still needs doing, thing got left awhile so study could take priority.

Connie is back! She’s been back just over a week which is fabulous, with the step promised for Monday brought her back on Saturday. Now the inside of Harvest Time is full of fur! Connie is moulting!! masses of cuddles loads of walks. I have a habit of forgetting to take the phone with me except this one. And if any has not seen Harry Corbett in ‘The Bargee’ then it is a must to put on the film list!

Fuel clean

On Saturday had (day after exam) Jason from Clean Fuel Marine came and cleaned the Diesel Tank and oh wow what a marathon that was. Weather, not bad, no rain, and not too windy for a change. Jason had come a dipped the fuel to see what the tank was like so he could give me an estimate for the fuel cleaning. The Tank lied to him told him it was better than it was.

After 2 years of Covid, and already waiting for an engine service. Before that, knowing the engine needed servicing, it had not been in use for awhile. With only approximately half a tank of fuel. I have never had the tank cleaned before nor do I know if the previous owner had had fuel cleaning done. Suffice to say when it came down to cleaning it was yuckier than first thought. Jason turned up about 11am, and what should have taken about 3 hours, and 1 maybe 2 filters. Well let’s just say Jason left at 7 in the evening, and it was Dark! Using 10 filters. and at least 4 water filters as well.

Infamous

Apparently Harvest Time now holds the infamous record of using the most filters in a clean! Jason was amazing, very professional, kept everything sparkly clean nothing ended up in the water that shouldn’t. Having to stop and shift his equipment to allow fellow boaters access, even helping them with their trollies. Harvest Time used so many filters there was the need to nip home for more! (good job he didn’t live far away.) Bless he even woke during the night working out why things had been so different on the clean to the dip. according to the phone call the following morning.

Angled lances go down into the tank to get at all the corners it all gets stirred up and brought though magnetic filter to get rid of the rusty bits before heading for very fine filter bags, my tank was basically lined with a very fine sediment in the base particularly on one side where she must have been leaning slightly, hence not being picked up in the initial dip. No live diesel bug was found, thankfully, just some dead bug. Other wise, just a mass of sediment. I would highly recommend Jason from Clean Fuel Marine, I am not being paid to say so, nor am I getting a discount of the very big bill! was it worth it? – absolutely.

BSS

Fortunately with the engine serviced, and the fuel cleaning done. I can now go out and Cruise the Cut. oh wait! No I can’t! Need to get my BSS sorted first (boat safety Scheme/certificate) its basically an MOT for boats needed every 4 years due to the damage to the boat while away for so song it has been put off as when it was due it was not safe to do. now it is but I’m waiting on a small gas job to be done before I can get it organized to be done.

Mean while back to Saturday

While that was going on I did a mammoth wash bed linen and all the other washing that had built up due to study! Washing machine was busy nonstop for most of that day. Sunday availed myself of the dryers, and because I could not dry the bed linen the same day had t o break out the spares which meant getting the Iron out. Ironing makes for better folding and storage. Because the Iron was out ironed everything in sight!! Something that is an extreme rarity.

Saturday also saw the chimney cleaned. Soot everywhere!! Cleaning equipment mooring chains and an old rag. The wait of the chain pulls the rag down the chimney. If it doesn’t then from the stove give the end of the chain a yank and down, it all comes!!!

So to Sunday

Yesterday saw the sun out, and a walk for Connie if I had been on my own would have just stayed in bed! having had such an eventful week. But Connie needed walking so by the River Frome we walked, which will be in a few years will be part of the canal system once again. When that section of the Stroudwater gets restored. Lots of miniature daffodils out, plenty of celandines even some violets. The buds are beginning to form spring is certainly coming.
